Note (Nov 2026): I used to swear a lot more in casual speech. Shortly before my first child was born, I read Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters, which inspired me to clean up my language. I rarely swear now. I left this essay untouched because editing it now would feel disingenuous; this is how my younger self talked.

How do you think it’s ok to toss your cigarette butts anywhere you please?
Do you not see that your cigarette butt trash is the same as a trashed piece of paper, plastic bag or can of soda?
Would you do the same with any other item you wish to discard?
Do you understand the concept of littering?
You are mindlessly littering every time you toss a butt out of your car window. Just because you’re on the highway doesn’t make it any less littering.
Get a hold of yourself. Don’t toss butts just because that’s the way it’s been. It’s never too late to start doing the right thing.
I don’t care that you smoke, that’s your earthly right. What’s not your earthly right is to negatively affect others by tossing trash anywhere you please. Limit your littering to your own property. Act like a reasonable human being. Be better.
